Greccio House of Prayer and Service
The name Greccio comes from a place that
is special in the Franciscan tradition. At Greccio, St. Francis of Assisi
reenacted the nativity scene. This reflects Francis’ great love for the
Incarnation. (It is also where the tradition of nativity scenes began).
Francis loved to meditate on the face of God in a baby, born in a manger.
Through this Francis
came to a profound knowledge of God’s poverty and humility and he radically
sought to imitate this. The crib, the cross, and the Eucharist, are
the three loves of Francis, because they give witness to the greatness of
God’s love for us and challenge us in our own way of being. Greccio is for
us a symbol of the poor, humble, and self-giving love of our Savior Jesus
Christ. This we hope to emulate in our life here in Gaming.
