February 2010
Let it snow...and snow...and snow!
February was a month full of snow. On February 6th, we woke up to 20 inches of snow and no electricity. We were so grateful to have our woodburning stove which helped to keep us warm. However, many sisters found another way of keeping warm: sledding! Sledding really is exercise for us.  Once you go down the big hill, you have to come back up - which is even more difficult when the snow is up to your hips!  It was a truly fraternal day! We continued to have snow storms throughout the month - and sledding was always a part of the fun!  View the slideshow to the right to see more!

Community Night - February 14

Our community has the tradition of having a community night just before we enter into the season of Lent.  This year, we gathered on February 14.  The evening began with a holy hour and Evening Prayer. Sr. Katherine then gave a sharing on the love God has for each of us.  We then went up for a celebratory dinner.  The tables were decorated beautifully.  Following dinner was even more fun. Some sisters put on skits, and then Sr. Jean led us in playing, "To tell the truth." Each sister submitted a story about themselves that nobody else would know.  Sr. Jean grouped us in threes and picked one of those sisters stories.  On the spot, each of the three sisters had to tell that story - whether it was their's or not!  Then everyone else had to guess whose story it really was! We really got to know some of our sisters better!  It truly was a blest evening.

Construction continues
Construction

The construction of Father of Mercy Chapel and residence continues to progress.  While all the snow slowed the workers some, the building continues to grow by leaps and bounds. To the left is a picture looking into our current residence from a room off the new chapel.  What used to be a window is now a temporary door providing access to the site. Sr. Catherine Lynn is standing with Jim, our Construction Superintendent at the new doorway.  Notice the curtains still hanging where the window used to be!  Below is Sr. Sarah Rose trying to help with the construction. Some sisters were able to walk through the site one afternoon, and we loved it.

Remember to check out our building page for more pictures of the construction as well as to view a virtual tour of the building!
